The Royal Sandrock Hotel (left) in about 1936. This hotel was built on the site of a spring in around 1811. This spring was reputed to have medicinal qualities and was visited by royalty in the 1830's. Unfortunately during the second half of the 20th Century a decline set in and it was destroyed by fire in 1984. A Beer, Sandrock Smoked Ale is brewed by Ventnor Brewery to commemorate this event. |
